Congregation Adath Jeshurun is an egalitarian Conservative congregation affiliated
with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Women and men participate equally
in all aspects of congregational life, which includes a full-range of educational,
religious and social activities. Founded in 1856, the synagogue was located in downtown
Louisville until the congregation relocated to the Highlands in 1957.
Rabbi Robert B. Slosberg has been the rabbi of the congregation since 1981.
Cantor David A. Lipp was named Hazzan in 1994.
The congregation provides a full range of worship opportunities including a daily morning and evening minyan.
Adath Jeshurun has an award-winning preschool as well as a Sunday religious school.
There are also active youth groups, adult education and social action programs.
The congregation sponsors a broad array of social events, speakers, retreats,
music programs, art projects, Israel trips, cruises and more.

In Louisville, he is an ardent advocate of Day School education.  He enjoys teaching both children and adults.  He teaches in the local day school, Hebrew School, High School of Jewish Studies and community adult education programs.  He is a founding member of the Louisville AIPAC (America-Israel Public Affairs Committee) Council and has served as president of the Kentucky board of Rabbis and Cantors.
Nationally, he serves on the Chancellors Rabbinic Cabinet of the Jewish Theological Seminary.  In 1996-'97, he was chairman of the Rabbinical Assembly Seminary Campaign.  In 2002, Rabbi Slosberg was selected as the chairman of the Board of Overseers of Albert A. List College, on whose board he has served since 1995. Rabbi Slosberg has won numerous awards for his service to the Jewish community.  In 1992, Rabbi Slosberg became the first annual recipient of the Rabbi Simon Greenberg Achievement Award of the Jewish Theological Seminary.  In 1998, he was honored with the
"For the Children Award" from Eliahu Academy, the local day school.  In 2001, Rabbi Slosberg was honored by the Congregation for his twenty years of service. Rabbi Slosberg is a Cum Laude graduate of Columbia University with honors in history and earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts Degree and rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary.  Rabbi Slosberg and his wife Deborah have three children. |

He currently leads worship services, prepares youth for bar and bat mitzvah, teaches synagogue skills to children and adults, co-officiates at all life-cycle events, does pastoral work, directs the Adath Jeshurun Adult choir and prepares and sings in concerts each year. He was the featured soloist for Voces Novae's first CD, Soul of the Synagogue.
Cantor Lipp also currently serves on the Executive Council
of the Cantors Assembly.
He was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and grew up in Jerusalem, Haifa, and Minneapolis. Before embarking on a career as a cantor, David Lipp was an actor performing in local and regional theatre
and music comedy in the Midwest. He graduated Summa Cum
Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota and
received a Masters of Sacred Music degree from the Cantors Institute of the Jewish Theological Seminary.
He is married to Rabbi Laura Metzger and they are the parents of a daughter. |
