All three youth groups are a cooperative effort between Keneseth Israel and Adath Jeshurun, Louisville’s two Conservative synagogues.
Derby USY (Grades 9–12) & Kadima (Grades 6–8): Derby USY (United Synagogue Youth) and Kadima (Hebrew for “forward”) are the Louisville chapters of these youth groups, which are affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Events include social programs like laser tag, bowling, amusement parks as well as programs to celebrate Jewish life and culture such as cooking, Shabbat dinners and holiday celebrations. We also partner with NFTY and BBYO for city-wide programming such as J-Serve, an annual day of community service. Our chapter is part of CRUSY, which includes Conservative synagogues all across Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and western Pennsylvania. Both Kadima and USY take part in regional conventions and USY participants have the opportunity to attend International Convention in December.
Shalom Club (Grades 4–5): Shalom Club gets together several times per year for programs like hamantaschen baking, games, and other fun events to celebrate Jewish culture in an informal way.
All questions and suggestions for youth programming should be sent to Lisa Rothstein at derbyusy@gmail.com.
