Short & Sweet Jr. Minyan at AJ

Shabbat, May 14th is the final Short & Sweet Jr. Minyan of the year. Join us in the Switow Chapel at 10:30 a.m.

Don’t forget to make your reservation for the Short & Sweet Jr. Minyan Pizza and Movie (Megamind) Party on Sunday, May 15th at 6 p.m.

If your child is away at college, please pass the word along for us or provide me their name, email address and/or phone number.

We will play on Tuesday evenings and anticipate a 12 game schedule plus the tournament as in years past. Practice dates are Tuesday 4/12 at 7 pm and at 12:45 pm on Sundays 4/17, 4/24, 5/1 & 5/8, weather permitting. 1st regular season game should be the Tuesday of Derby Week (5/3) and every Tuesday through the end of July.

The JCC fee for last year is the same-AJ is charging $45 for full timers and $25 for those playing less than half the season but no one will be turned away.

Dust off your glove and get your legs back into shape. Please help spread the word.

We need artists to each draw one of the ten plagues. The drawings will be displayed in the center of our Seder tables.

In order to participate, please do the following:

A. Choose your plague (one plague per student) from the list below:

• Blood
• Frogs
• Lice
• Wild Beasts
• Pestilence
• Boils
• Hail
• Locusts
• Darkness
• Slaying of the Firstborn

B. Contact Riva Schanker at: riva411@insightbb.com or (203) 676‑9393 to let her know which plague you will be drawing. Plagues will be assigned on a first come first served basis, so contact Riva as soon as possible.

C. Using markers, paints, crayons, pencils, fabric and/or glitter, create a picture depicting the plague that you have selected. All pictures must be no larger than 9” x 12”, and must be made using cardstock, poster board or foam board.

D. The finished artwork must be dropped off at AJ no later than Thursday, April 14th at noon.

Celebrate with AJ’s Confirmation Class of 2011 Saturday, May 14th at 9:15 a.m.

Confirmation is a group ceremony marking the transition of a class to adulthood. In our Congregation, confirmation marks a “graduation” from 10 years of religious study.

For many decades, Adath Jeshurun has held our Confirmation ceremony on the first day of Shavuot, which is traditional in the Conservative Movement. Because Shavuot often falls on weekdays, many family members and friends who would like to celebrate with our confirmands have told us that they are unable to attend. Therefore, this year we have changed the date of our Confirmation ceremony to a Saturday morning, May 14th at 9:15 a.m.

Please come and support our class of 2011, who will be leading us in prayer that morning. Our 2011 confirmands and their proud parents are:

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
