Social Action
AJ is committed to life-long education (Torah), a traditional style of worship (Avodah), and acts of loving-kindness (G’milut Hassadim) both within and outside the Jewish community.
At Adath Jeshurun, we embrace our special relationship and responsibility to the State of Israel and worldwide Jewry.
This Congregation intends to maintain the broad involvement of its members in a warm, welcoming environment while contributing to the welfare of the total community.

Brown Bag Blessings
Brown Bag Blessings will provide simple sack lunches to those in need in our community.  Are you a master PB&J maker?  We’d be delighted to have you!  Never wielded a wad of PB onto bread?  No worries, let us show you how it’s done!
•Students, parents, grandparents, and friends of all ages are invited to support this community outreach program.
•There is no cost to participate!

Lost Boys of Sudan
In 2010, AJ members helped raise the funds to reunite a remarkable former Sudanese refugee in Louisville, Gabriel Kwai, with his wife and daughter who were stuck in Sudan.  Gabriel was one of the courageous  "Lost Boys of Sudan" who fled by foot through the desert to escape the slaughter and destruction of his village.
In 2009, when Gabriel shared his moving story with our congregation during the Selichot service, we learned that Gabriel had never seen, nor held his daughter.  Rabbi Slosberg with the support of the congregation decided they would do whatever it took to reunite this man with his family.
The mitzvah of "Pidyon Sh'vuyim" - Redeeming Captives and "Pikuach Nefesh" - Saving a Life was successfully completed when Gabriel's wife and daughter arrived on American soil and were reunited.

In 2015Rabbi Slosberg learned of another "Lost Boy of Sudan", Martin Nihal.  Martin was working as a surgical tech at Louisville's Jewish Hospital and had not seen his wife and three young daughters, who were stuck in Uganda, in four years!  Working with Jewish Hospital, the "Adath Jeshurun Pikuach Nefesh Fund of the Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's Foundation" was created to raise the funds needed to reunite Martin with his family.
Martin's family arrived in December 2017 thanks to the support of AJ members and the community.
