The AJ Men’s Club is sponsoring a Game Night on Monday, February 13th as U of L plays against Syracuse.  Pizza, beer and refreshments begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the game beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Come enjoy the game on AJ’s large-screen TV in the Benovitz Library.  The entire community is welcome to attend! 

$5.00 each for reservations made by February 6th

$10.00 each for reservations made February 7th - 13th or at the door.

Yes, Rabbi Susan Silverman is the sister of comedian, Sarah Silverman! Susan Silverman grew up with parents who were atheists. Yet, as a young adult, she shocked everyone who knew her and became a reform rabbi. She is also an author, activist and adoptive mom. She has recently written a book called “Casting Lots” about her decision to adopt two sons from an Ethiopian orphanage. Additionally, she is on the Board of Directors of “Women of the Wall,” a group working to attain social and legal recognition of women’s rights to wear prayer shawls, pray, and read from the Torah, collectively and aloud, at the Western Wall.

5:45 p.m. – Kabbalat Shabbat Service

9:30 a.m.   – Shabbat Service. Rabbi Silverman will present the D’var Torah on “What it Means to be Jewish.”
11:30 a.m. – Kiddush Luncheon
12:15 p.m. – Rabbi Silverman will serve as Shabbat Scholar, and will speak on her experience with adoption.

Signed copies of “Casting Lots” can be preordered before March 6th for $24.99 at www.jewishlouisville.org/silverman. The books will be available for pickup at Adath Jeshurun on March 17th and 18th.

Short and Sweet Family Service led by Deborah Slosberg will take place on Saturday, February 11th at 10:30 a.m. in the Slosberg Event Center.

AJ Hamentaschen Bake

$5 per family!

This event will provide a fun opportunity to fulfill the mitzvah of “Mishloach Manot” – sending gifts of food. 

•    Enjoy a fun afternoon of creative hamentaschen baking at AJ!
•    Learn to make these scrumptious goodies, and take some home with you!
•    Hamentaschen will also be given to residents of nursing homes and assisted-living facilities, so you can have fun and do a mitzvah too!
•    Kids get to decorate creative cards and gift bags! 

Reservations are needed in order to have enough ingredients for everyone to participate.
